During its Congress over the weekend, LI full member People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD - Netherlands) adopted its central election programme and list of candidates ahead of parliamentary elections in the Netherlands scheduled for 15 March 2017.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte leads the list of candidates whereas Minister of Defence Jeanine Hennis Plasschaert is number two and the current leader of the VVD parliamentary group in the lower house of the Dutch parliament, Halbe Zijlstra, is on place number three.

Addressing party delegates Rutte emphasized the need to focus on health and elderly care, the creation of jobs, and increasing security."Liberals should look forward and take the lead for a better future for all Dutch citizens. A strong economy which brings new jobs, European co-operation for the benefit of its member states and a self-confident society where one does not have to fear criminals and terrorists are key for fulfilling such future" he said.

On the fringes of the Congress, Prime Minister Rutte and Minister Plasschaert held a live Q/A session on Facebook.
