An informal network There are in the world a large number of think tanks and foundations with a liberal tendency, taking liberal in a broad sense. Some of these institutions have relations with or sympathise with particular liberal parties and groups that are members or observers of the Liberal International (LI). Some of them have direct relations to the Liberal International and some of these are what is called cooperating organisations to the Liberal International.
Representatives of some liberal think tanks and foundations with sympathy for or links to the LI in 1996 started to have informal meetings in connection with Liberal International events and also organised seminars.
Aims of the liberal network The aim of the network cooperation is to stimulate liberal debate on long term issues of policy relevance, issues that not necessarily relate to day-to-day liberal party politics.
The network is informal. Entry to the network is acquired by think tanks in sympathy for or with links to the LI expressing interest, which leads to inclusion in an e-mail address list. The network is open for organisations but not for individuals. The network can fruitfully be used as a basis for taking individual contacts with institutions of interest.
Network activities Much of the activities are taking place within the member organisations when they look for information and ideas on the web sites of the other members and get in contact with them for information. The idea is to develop this interchange by creating web-based fora for discussion and dissemination of information. The network regularly organises a seminar and a business meeting in connection with the LI congresses. Click here for network seminars
Coordination of the network A coordinating committee functions as a centre in the network. It consists of Professor Ingemund Hägg, The Bertil Ohlin Institute, Sweden and Dr Detmar Doering, Liberales Institut, Friedrich Naumann Stiftung, Germany.
Information about the network Those interested in more information about the network and admittance to the address list are welcome to contact.
