Internship Opportunities

Liberal International (LI), the world federation of liberal political parties, is seeking excellent undergraduates and graduates for internships at our Secretariat in London. The Secretariat of LI is located in the heart of London, in the prestigious Whitehall area near the UK Parliament.

To Aspiring Liberal International Interns

Internships last between three to six months, though longer periods may be possible in exceptional circumstances, and are ideally suited to complement undergraduate and post-graduate students. Internships are voluntary and interns are expected to make their own living arrangements, although we may be able to provide advice. Office hours are between 09:00am-6:00pm and it would be helpful if you could include in your application how much time per week you’d like to be in the office.

Role of Interns

Our interns are exposed to a variety of experiences that we hope will assist them in their career development. These internships provide practical experience in dealing with a variety of international political, diplomatic and economic issues and are an excellent opportunity to be exposed to the policy-making process.

Interns quickly become fully integrated into our activities. Interns' activities may include: conducting research on a variety of political and social issues; writing reports on the political situation in different countries; attending a variety of international conferences and briefings by visiting dignitaries and other events as a representative of LI; assisting with the planning of international events; writing for LI's highly regarded weekly newsletter; monitoring human rights and press freedom violations and corresponding with Members of Parliament by telephone and email.

Interns will gain a profound understanding of different ideologies within International Relations (with a particular focus on liberalism), the experience of working in an international environment, and improved language skills. This opportunity will also provide an understanding of British cultural and social life.

At the end of the internship the intern will be given a written reference specifying the substance of the training.

Interns should have some knowledge of subjects related to international relations, media or political science, and possess impressive research and writing skills. Fluency in French and English is required. Candidates should be highly motivated and will be expected to show initiative. Interns should also be willing to travel, if necessary.

Acceptances are made on a rolling basis and we usually have two interns at any one time. As we are over-subscribed, please ensure that we receive your CV and details of your availability as soon as possible to office(at)
