Thursday 13 April 2017 11:04

Joining the annual Liberty Forum (Fórum da Liberdade) in Brazil, the Board members of the Red Liberal de America Latina – RELIAL (LI cooperating organisation), marked the 30th anniversary of what is known to be the largest gathering of Liberals from Latin America. In inspiring atmosphere of over 2000 participants the RELIAL Board decided on its priorities for the rest of the year.

This year’s overarching theme “The Future of Democracy” included debates on Culture of Democracy, Limits of Democracy, Economics Panel on Freedom or Intervention, and a discussion on Enterprise – create –innovate. Throughout its editions Forum da Liberdade in Porto Alegre has gathered more than 300 speakers, including five Nobel Prize winners (James Buchanan, Gary Becker, James Heckman, Douglass North and Mario Vargas Llosa), seven heads of state, national and international political leaders and ministers of state, as well as business leaders, academics and scholars.

Onyx Lorenzoni MP, President of the Brazilian Group of Liberal International and Congressman from Porto Algre attended the Forum, alongside speakers and representatives of the liberal parties Partido NOVO and Partido Social Liberal (PSL) and the liberal youth movement Movimiento Brasil Livre (Free Brazil Movement). The Forum is organised by RELIAL member organisation Instituto de Estudos Empresariais (IEE).

Videos and updates from the Forum can be found on its Facebook page.
