Congress Registration set to open on 01 April

Hosted by LI full member Liberals d’Andorra in coordination with European Liberal Forum, the 70th Anniversary LI Congress registration will open its registration on Saturday, 1 April, and close on Thursday, 4 May. The 70th Anniversary Congress will mark a history with the culmination of the 2017 Liberal Manifesto process – a global reflection on liberalism in the twenty-first century.

LI will continue to support freedom in Zanzibar and Tanzania

The Director of Foreign Affairs and International Relations of Tanzania’s Civic United Front (CUF) and Member of Zanzibar's House of Representatives, Ismail Jussa, met at LI headquarters with Secretary General Emil Kirjas to discuss continuous clampdown democracy, human rights and civil liberties in the East African nation. “Rest assured that we are going to continue our international pressure to hold the government in Dar es Salaam accountable for its actions until freedom prevails,” said Mr Kirjas after the meeting.

European Parliament to Nicaragua: Stop harassing the liberal opposition

A resolution on Nicaragua deploring the attacks and harassment suffered by members of human rights organisations and independent journalists as well as individuals, political forces and bodies linked to the State, was passed in the European Parliament today, backed by the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for EuropeALDE (LI full member).  ALDE’s coordinator on Latin America, Renate Weber MEP, denounced the Nicaraguan Government’s attacks on the democratic opposition and urged a return to the rule of law.
