Western Cape Premier Helen Zille, who is also Liberal International’s Deputy President, noted the audit outcomes saying clean audits were not only part of good governance, but “part of our responsibility in building a capable state that is accountable and upholds the rule of the law in South Africa”. Hinting at the financial controversies that have engulfed South Africa’s president, Jacob Zuma, Premier Zille added: “Our priority must always be to use public funds in the public benefit while removing as much red tape as possible”.
Following the DA’s highly successful round of local elections in August this year, in which they broke through in a number of ANC strongholds to take control of, among others, the administrative capital of South Africa, the liberals will be looking to implement their cleaner way of doing politics further in 2017.
