Liberal International and the International Network of Liberal Women (INLW - LI full-member), have teamed up to project a common liberal voice on the issue of promotion and advancement of women's rights at the upcoming session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW).

Under the theme Overcoming Challenges Facing Women in Business in a Changing World, LI and INLW will organize a side event for a third consecutive year on the fringes of the 61st UNCSW Session; the event will discuss obstacles and challenges business women including immigrant and refugee women face in different parts of the world. The objective is to provide an insight into the situation of business women and their possibilities for economic empowerment around the world in an ever- changing world of work.

Speakers and attendees alike will have an opportunity to discuss questions related to the lack of entrepreneurial opportunities for women in certain parts of the world because of various cultural/religious constraints and how to overcome those barriers by using positive experiences and best practices.

The event will be chaired by INLW President Margaret De Vos Van Steenwjik and it will feature LI Human Rights Committee Member and INLW Vice-President Khadija El Morabit, Member of the Swedish Parliament Tina Acketoft (Folkpartiet Liberalerna, LI full-member), INLW VP and Vice-President of the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy Maysing Yang and the Director of Emancipation for the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science Jaqueline Prins.

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, 14 March, from 4:30 to 6:30pm at the Community Church of New York and it will be open to all NGO and permanent mission representatives attending UNCSW. For more information about the event please contact the LI Secretariat.
