LI VP Löning to entrepreneurs: fair open society essential for economic success
Thursday 9 February 2017 13:02

Markus Löning, LI Vice President on the Bureau and Chair of the Human Rights Committee, has characterised the recent “wave of anti-free-trade nationalism and the exclusion of immigrants” as a “threat to cohesion”. He alerted of a “changed world”, where the Chinese Communist President defends free trade at the World Economic Forum, while the American president threatens customs duties and imposes entry bans.

He said that entrepreneurs also have an important role to play. “They can make it clear what the corporate values mean”, said Mr Löning, and sent a clear message to the business community: “Do not tolerate any marginalisation in the company and explain better to the public why global markets and a fair, open society are so important to economic success.”

LI Vice President Löning praised the Apple CEO Tim Cook for setting a “wise example”, making a clear commitment to the company values that “in the diversity lies the strength.” Also, he emphasised the importance of the clear public statement the government in Washington that open society and immigration so important to the success of the company.
