Human Rights

The Liberal International Human Rights Committee is the sole executive body of the organisation in charge of promoting and advocating for human rights worldwide. Its mission is as follows:

  • To serve as a framework for exchanging information, experience and good practices in advocacy and lobbying in the defence and promotion of human rights, particularly civil liberties, among liberals from across the world
  • To speak on behalf of LI and support LI members in their efforts to promote sensible human rights policies on a national and international level
  • To influence international politics where it concerns human rights, such as through involvement with the work of the United Nations and through the individual member parties and their respective spokespersons
  • To build visibility of LI as a credible human rights actor within the international human rights community
  • To counter human rights violations, especially those against political parties and activists

The Committee operates based on a three year project at a time and it currently focuses extensively on the following four priority areas:

Women’s Rights with a specific focus on:

  • Prevention and Elimination of Domestic Violence
  • Prevention and Elimination of Female Genital Mutilation practices
  • Female Political Participation

  • Anti-Discrimination in Asia and Europe
  • Lobby towards the Relevant International Institutions

  • Implementation of the doctrine in the context of non-state actors
