The Democratic Alliance welcomed the judgment handed down by the High Court. “This is a victory for the rule of law and indeed for our country’s human rights-based foreign policy which Zuma and his cronies have tried so hard to depart from,” said the DA statement.
The DA urged on the government “to reconsider the wisdom of withdrawing from the ICC” saying that South Africa must not be kept “out of step with other progressive and democratic African countries who have reaffirmed their commitment to the ICC.” South Africa’s liberal party pledged to “recommit” the nation “to the human rights-based foreign policy spearheaded by the late President Nelson Mandela.”
Africa Liberal Network (ALN - LI cooperating organisation) President, Olivier Kamitatu, earlier labelled the AU decision "deplorable” and urged “all AU states to reconsider and ultimately reject any strategy of leaving the ICC.” Liberal International has spoken out strongly in support of ICC and against withdrawal of African states from the participation in the international court.
